Full Name: Shawn Hammonds
Shawn Hammonds started Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 1998 for self defense and his job. Shawn trained a solid 3 days a week till 2001 when his best friend ED Clay opened Nashville MMA, then started training 5 days a week.
Competing since 1999, it kept him in great shape and was a great outlet for stress. Shawn competed in each belt and became the head instructor of Nashville MMA. In 2005 as a Purple Belt, Nashville MMA and Shawn changed their affiliation over to to Team Lloyd Irvin and although he learned a ton from his professors prior to Master Lloyd, Lloyd helped Shawn really complete his Jiu-Jitsu. Shawn received his Brown Belt from Master Lloyd and on February of 2007 he received his very hard earned, but gratifying black belt.
Shawn has medaled in International competitions 11 times with 2 Gold medals in the Pan American championships. Today Shawn still competes internationally and teaches Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to kids and adults at the Guardian MMA Academy in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Shawn runs the Team Shawn Hammonds Association and has 21 affiliates across the United States. Jiu-Jitsu has changed his life and the best compliments he receives is how he has changed people’s lives through Jiu-Jitsu. although it’s them who are changing his life.
