Eric Schwalm in detail

Full Name: Eric P. Schwalm
Eric Schwalm is the Owner and Head Instructor of Kaze BJJ and Judo Institute. Eric started training the grappling arts in 1998 as part of his required military training while stationed here at Fort Campbell, KY He continued his training for the next 19 years achieving the level of 2nd Degree Black Belt in Judo (USJA) and Black Belt in BJJ under Coach Ray Casias (Tennessee Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy/Team Zenith).
Eric’s military career has spanned over 30 years, and includes service during Operations Desert Shield/Storm, Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom, and most recently Operation Inherent Resolve. He is still an active serving member of the military so he understands the needs and capabilities of the soldier/military family when it comes to training martial arts and will work with you to make your training goals happen.
A competitor as well as a teacher, Eric has competed twice in the All Army Combatives competition and at least once every year in civilian competitions until a series of injuries forced him to take a temporary leave. Throughout his recovery, Eric has managed to continue to train and has learned to adapt his game and his teaching to work with those who suffer from physical limitations and athletic injuries.
Additionally, Eric is one of the oldest grappler/competitors in TN State having recently passed the 50-year mark in his age so he understands the needs of older men/women when it comes to learning the more physically demanding arts of BJJ and Judo. Eric holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Troy State University and fully supports the Law Enforcement Community as well as Fire Protection and Emergency Services having once been a Nationally Registered EMT-Paramedic himself.
